Need more info on shipping insurance

I’d appreciate the option of shipping insurance on my purchases, rather than seeing it automatically added to my order. When considering insurance, I’d ask what it covers…is it only for loss, or would it cover damage as well?
Products are fantastic, shipping is quick & efficient, and the protective packaging option is much appreciated, but I would love more info on the coverage of shipping insurance, particularly if it is being automatically added.
